Creative Movement
A general curriculum for children ages 3 to 5. The focus is on general coordination development along with exercises to increase flexibility and develop strength. The class is geared to the abilities of each student keeping in mind that there is a wide range of both skill and maturity at these ages. All instruction is presented in fun, imaginative and creative ways designed to hold the attention of young children while introducing students to classroom etiquette and developing a work ethic. Of significant importance as children begin to dance is to foster a close trusting relationship between the teacher and her students, encouraging their love of movement and music and creating an environment for success and a positive self-image. Specific curriculum goals include the following:
- General alignment of hips and shoulders
- Basic positions of the feet, arms, head, directions of legs and their relation to a body’s center
- Awareness of the body and how it works (muscular and skeletal)
- Awareness of music and rhythms
- Awareness of space
- Building strength and stretching for flexibility
- Establishing the image of a ballerina
- Classroom etiquette
- Developing a work ethic
- Basic Stage directions
- Floor patterns
- Expressive faces when dancing and becoming comfortable with performing situations
- Socialization with peers.
