The introduction to basic ballet for children. Even if students have had previous dance experience (creative movement or other programs) the elementary level teacher presents all curriculum as if it were new with the philosophy that children at this level have developed cognitive skills that allow them to process even old information in a new way. All the goals mentioned in the Creative Movement Overview are incorporated in the elementary levels still focusing on fostering a close and trusting relationship between the teacher and student and encouraging the love of movement and music and creating an environment for success and a positive self-image. Many ballet steps and the correct terminology are introduced at this level but there is no pressure to perform each step with technical perfection. Generally children of this age are lacking the muscle control and muscle memory to achieve such a goal. The elementary levels are divided into age categories, which in no way reflects a student's ability level nor the number of years of pervious training.
