Kathy Thomas-Law
Kathy Thomas-Law received her early dance training from the Atlanta School of Ballet under the direction of Dorothy Alexander. She performed with the Atlanta Ballet, directed by Robert Barnett and appeared during her seven years with the company in many productions including "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and Balanchine's "Serenade".
Upon graduation from high school, Kathy received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to study with the National Ballet in Washington, D.C. under the direction of Frederick Franklin. While based in Washington, Kathy expanded her training by spending time in New York studying with such notable teachers at Alexandra Danilova, David Howard and Robert Joffrey.
"Miss" Kathy, as she is known to her students, began teaching dance in 1975. During those early years, she served as a founding director of the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre, has been an active member of the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association, The Dance Coalition of Metro Atlanta, The Gwinnett Council for the Arts, and a board member for the Gwinnett Council on Child Abuse.
"Miss" Kathy founded En Pointe School of Dance in Lilburn in 1987 and bought Walton School of Dance in Monroe in 1994. With the Lord's leading in 2007, Walton School of Dance was closed and Discipleship Through Dance was opened in the youth house at Monroe First United Methodist Church. As an outreach of Praise In Motion's Christian Dance Ministry, Kathy feels blessed to offer her unique approach to quality dance training - focusing beyond the body, to train the whole child…mind, body, and soul in a Christ Centered Environment. Again in 2008, God has opened the doors for a second Discipleship Through Dance in Commerce, Georgia, at The Praise Center Church.
Praise In Motion Dance Ministry was founded In 1992 by Kathy and her long time student and friend, Rhonda Oltjenbruns, thus blending her passion for Christ with her passion for dance in a company that presents 2 major Worship Concert events each year while also reaching out to the community by offering free performance to any church or civic group. In an awesome journey, directed by God, Praise In Motion has become one of the premier Christian dance companies in the state. PIM’s dancers have a strong technical foundation in ballet, as well as other forms of dance, and are committed to using their God given talents for His glory rather than self-glory. Praise in Motion has worked with the Salvation Army, Project Dance, The Hunger Walk, and many, many churches in the Metro Atlanta area.
Kathy lives in Snellville with her husband Dewitt (who is the technical director for PIM). She has two children Peyton and Morgan (who is also a dancer!).
