Meredith Rainey

Meredith began dancing at the age of five as a ballet student at the former Walton School of Dance, which we all know now as Discipleship Through Dance. "Miss" Kathy and "Miss" Amie were two of her dance teachers and mentors as she progressed through her years as a student of the school. Meredith served for six years as a ballet demonstrator for "Miss" Amie and other teachers at Walton School of Dance, learning about the structuring of dance classes and management of children in a creative and active setting. Meredith taught her first Creative Movement class on her own in 2003 and fell in love with the art of teaching.

In 2004, Meredith began her studies at Brenau University, pursuing a degree in Legal Studies with a minor in Dance. She danced under the tutelage of the late Carol Smiarowski and Vincas Greene in the areas of ballet, improvisational dance, modern dance, and the anatomical elements of dance. Meredith transferred to The University of Georgia in 2006, where she is currently a senior pursuing her A.B. in Women's Studies and minor in Dance. Throughout her college career, Meredith has also been gaining experience and growing as a dance teacher. She served as a teacher for Buford School of Ballet in Buford, Georgia, for four years and DePass Studio of Dance in Watkinsville, Georgia, for one year in addition to her position at Discipleship Through Dance.

"Miss" Meredith's main pursuit lies in finding new ways to elevate the name of Jesus by combining her interests in dance, teaching, and women's studies. She enjoys worshiping through choreography and dance in church and on stage. Most of all, she feels that God calls her to be actively aware of social problems that have been created by human transgression and to follow the example of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25-37. As this relates to her dance classes, "Miss" Meredith notes:

Many girls and women suffer from low self-esteem associated with distorted body images and low confidence in physical ability. Having a physical and creative outlet in a safe and uplifting environment is very important for combating these issues in children, teens, and adults. My goal as a teacher is to help foster an environment for students in which they are comfortable and can feel proud of themselves; helping to build positive self-images for others can only make their lives better and bring glory and honor to God.

Meredith presently resides in Social Circle, Georgia, with her patient parents and precious dog, Marco, while she finishes her schooling at UGA. After she graduates, she hopes to continue teaching dance as long as possible and plans to attend law school and specialize in issues of social justice.
